Prince George's Community College to Host Virtual LibreFest, Oct. 23, 2020

PGCC and the LibreTexts Development team members will host an online workshop to help new users of LibreTexts incorporate the Open Education Resource (OER) platform in their courses.  This workshop will have two tracks:  one focusing on new OER users, and one for those who are trying to build upon their existing OER experience.

Whatever the reason for your interest, this three-hour workshop will give you a chance learn about LibreTexts in time to use it in one or more of your courses this spring. 

In these hands-on workshops you will: 

1. see what is possible in an online platform when you aren’t restricted to a paper book
2. examine a few of the hundreds of textbooks that already exist in LibreTexts
3. create your own custom version of a textbook using the LibreTexts Remixer
4. Explore advanced OER tools such as homework managers and assessment development

The workshop is designed to give you time to explore and learn about the LibreTexts platform and its features, as well as time to work on creating your own open educational resource(s). A rough itinerary of the workshop is below: 

Afternoon of October 23rd 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST:  Concurrent Session #1 - INTRO

• Learn how to think about teaching from an online textbook. How does organization change how we learn? What can be done with an online text that is not possible with a traditional text? 
• Explore the various types of texts that LibreTexts already has available and how some existing classes organize their online materials. 

• Log-in to LibreTexts and start to build your own textbook focused on the organization specific to your class. 
• Hands on work time with LibreTexts facilitators.

Afternoon of October 23rd 1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST:  Concurrent Session #2 

• Learn about page layout, style, and basic editing. 
• Log-in to LibreTexts and modify your own textbook focused on the organization specific to your class. 
• Learn about built in assessments, homework managers and advanced features
• Hands on work time with LibreTexts facilitators.
